This Amazon book review matters, even though I feel a little silly posting it, but it is my first official book review, so “Here’s to feeling silly!”
When I returned from Alderson Federal Prison I was asked repeatedly if I was going to write a book and without any hesitation, would reply, NO!
One day I was introduced to Fabi Preslar, President and Founder of SPARK Publications. She invited me to her office where I sadly shared my story. She asked me how I felt about writing a book and I candidly said, it sounded like a lot of work and I felt too lazy. I told her I wouldn’t know where to begin, nor did I feel I was “qualified” to write a book…only real-life authors do stuff like that!
SPARK Publications formed a writers group and I had nothing else to do, so I went. They have a very cool coffee machine with endless flavors and sometimes there were goodies to die for. Yum- Yum. As I sat at the shiny white glass table I realized not everybody was a polished writer, but several were aspiring. (Hmmm… maybe I can do this.) I was told to go home and “brain dump” on my computer. I loved the idea and figured it wouldn’t take me too long! LOL
Journaling was a past time for me while living in cube 44 at Alderson Federal Prison. When I reopened my old journals, I began to remember some of the worst and (believe it or not), best times of my time. My writing started to take shape… quirky and often times with a spiritual lens.
Over months and months, I started to have feelings of frustration, brain freeze and lower back pain. I was convinced I would never finish this book and only dream about it…I secretly wanted to quit. But every time I was ready to surrender the idea, God would open another door. The day I went to see Fabi, I told her I really didn’t know what message I had and felt inadequate. (Me and my big mouth). She looked at me and said, “Holly, I believe it would be a disservice to others if you didn’t write your book.” She then told me with a teary eye, I had already impacted her in many ways. Oh great I thought to myself, let the writing continue, ugh!
Finally, my book, A Strange Path to Freedom was born and today I would like to share my first official Amazon 5-Star Review. Isn’t this sort of silly? I still can’t believe I really have a published book. You know it’s only for real life authors! (Giggle).
Amazingly written! Inspirational ending!
Holly did a phenomenal job! I do not like to sit still and read, but I could not put this book down! She had me crying in the beginning and laughing on and off throughout. Most importantly, she had me thinking about how to make my life better!! Thank you for sharing your story!

Thank you, Tracy, for sharing your kind words with me and all the others who may stumble across my little book on Amazon. And you, my reader, if you get the inclination to write a book review on Amazon, I’d be so appreciative. Amazon book reviews help bump up my book in searchability (is that a word?!), which then allows for my story of freedom to be seen by more potential readers. This journey of mine is not one I’ve taken alone, and it will continue to be one we take together. Thank you for considering sharing how A Strange Path to Freedom continues to impact you!Holly
