Alternative to a New Years Resolution

New Year’s Resolutions are a joke.

Resolutions come every new year. We become motivated to engage in serious list making. Generations include unmet goals from the years before along with additional new ones. This can be exhausting.

20 Habits of Eventual Millionaires by James Altucher states Warren Buffett’s 5/25 rule. Buffett suggests listing 25 things you want to do in life and never think about the last 20 ever again, because it takes time away from the five that are most important to you. “Although this may be a great idea, now I have no excuse to fail, and feel pressure to succeed”!

It is a new year with a new beginning. Chance and change, it’s a year of opportunities. It’s a fresh start for everyone, who desires and believes.

Genesis is about new beginnings too, and God makes it very clear for us to be fruitful and enjoy our lives. It will require planting and pruning to stay balanced.  I’m not sure that includes shoe shopping and wine?

Planting will include, healthy nourishment, (avoid things that come in a box, eat from the earth), the right amount of rest, balancing your work and play time, (I love playtime). Include spending time alone and time with God. “His schedule is always open”.

Pruning is not always a picnic! It can be backbreaking for everyone. It’s a season to remove, pull out, and detach from toxic relationships or activities that deplete us. “I recently purchased pruning shears from Lowe’s Home Improvement and I highly recommend them”.

Remember what God said. He created everything, you and I, and he said “it is good”.  He didn’t say, any of us had to be #1, be the smartest or the best looking! He approves of ALL of us, black, white, brown, gay, straight, democrats, republicans, even tax collectors. He may not approve of everything we do, but he does approve of you and me.

I have my bad days, I feel worthless, insecure and unacceptable at times. I do realize these are my feelings, only “feelings” not “truth”. “Just because I think it, doesn’t mean it is so”.

Our culture instills us to be #1, we strive for success, more money, and possessions. We desire acknowledgment and praise.  Let’s not forget the ever so popular “likes” on Facebook. None will not be a gift if there is no enjoyment in your life.

I spent time in Federal Prison, and I I found many gifts.  My best one was my crush on God. I knew it would be unlikely to find another man who could measure up to him.  Tall, dark, handsome, witty, intelligent, athletic, and could grant all my wishes to come true… I know this is a bit of an exaggeration, but this is my blog, and God made me this way…

I am finally fully released after a nine-year battle, resulting with a willingness to be content with what I have. I am sanctioned to enjoy life despite the scars from the past. We are permitted to approve of ourselves. Everyone will not like you or say nice words about you.  Good news– “It’s not your business”…ladies in prison often said, “God don’t make, no junk”. Remember that.

We are not created to be worthless, and trust me, I tell myself this all the time! You think God went through everything he went through to make us worthless? Think again.

I have accepted where I am in life, which is not exactly what I had in mind.  Waiting with expectation and faith, knowing I am where I am supposed to be. Truthfully, it ain’t always easy girlfriend and for some oddball reason, I’m excited about it. God is the master Creator and knows more than I… which is no surprise. All I must do is enjoy where I am and God will help me get to where he wants me to be. It would be much easier, if he would discuss this with me first, but then again, he has his own ways… typical male, full of surprises!

You can spur the economy and lower the unemployment rate, by hiring a Master Gardener.  He will oversee the pruning in your life as he sees fit, so that you will enjoy years of fruitfulness and fulfillment. He gives you the profits, including bonuses and it’s all tax free!

Let there be no confusion, or water pollution,

my new contribution to a New Year’s Resolution,

is not an execution, there is no restitution

My New Year’s Resolution comes with more solutions,

my New Year’s Resolution

is my New Year’s Revolution!

Oops my alter ego, a.k.a. rapper, Jolly-Holly appeared and “no” I have not been drinking…
